Puka Nacua broke an NFL receptions record held by Michael Thomas

In his third season in the league, Puka Nacua continues to break NFL records. On Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals, he caught seven passes for 167 yards and two touchdowns. With those seven receptions, Nacua now has 277 in his career, breaking the league record for the most catches in a player’s first 40 regular-season games.

The previous record was held by Michael Thomas, who had 273 in his first 40 games with the New Orleans Saints. Nacua has been a high-volume receiver since he got to the NFL and he’s turned those 384 targets into 277 catches for 3,662 yards and 15 touchdown receptions.

He broke Thomas’ record on this tough catch, which was one we see Nacua make on a weekly basis.

The Rams’ star receiver would likely have even more records if not for injuries that have limited him at times in the last two seasons. He played just 11 games last year and missed all or part of three games this season.

Anytime you’re breaking a receptions record held by Thomas, who set the all-time mark with 149 catches in 2019, you’re doing something right.
