A GoFundMe campaign launched on Monday by Sabrina Garibay, the mother of 23-year-old Ashley Garibay, a Stockton In-N-Out employee killed when a gunman opened fire at the chain’s newest Idaho restaurant on Saturday, Aug. 1, has already raised its goal.
The GoFundMe campaign named “Ashley my IN N OUT all star, tragedy and a life taken so soo(n),” has already raised $52,142, passing its $50,000 goal, as of Tuesday, afternoon. The GoFundMe has collected 714 donations. An anonymous donor, donated $11,592.
“Our beautiful angel, Ashley, gained her wings while working at IN-N-OUT in Twin Falls, Idaho. As she was doing what she loved, her life was taken!” Sabrina Garibay wrote. “A call no mother ever wants to get! Ashley was an amazing soul, with the most beautiful heart and radiant smile.”
Ashley Garibay was one of three victims killed during a mass shooting over the weekend at the recently opened Twin Fall In-N-Out location in Idaho.
Garibay was an employee at the March Lane In-N-Out location in North Stockton. She was working at the new Twin Falls restaurant in Idaho, training workers, Garibay’s uncle Marcos, confirmed to KCRA 3.
“Please help support our family during this horrific time. All proceeds will go toward laying Ashley to rest in the most beautiful way and any financial expenses related to Ashley,” the GoFundMe states. “Ashley was a beloved daughter, sister, auntie and best friend to everyone she met. She has left a lasting impression on so many souls!”
The Twin Falls In-N-Out Burger location remains temporarily closed days after the shooting.
As of Tuesday afternoon, there were no visible memorials at the In-N-Out where Garibay worked at 2727 W. March Lane in Stockton.
On Monday, Garibay’s family released a statement. Her family said In-N-Out was Garibay’s first job and she had “fell in love with it.”
“Ashley was an amazing, beautiful soul who loved living life. She was adventurous, outgoing, smart and driven, never letting obstacles get in her way,” Garibay’s family said. “She lit up a room with her bright smile and a laugh that was contagious.”
Garibay would travel for work to open new stores.
“Her dream was to one day manage an In-N-Out store,” her family said. They added that she “left this world doing what she loved to do.”
In-N-Out president and CEO releases statement
Lynsi Snyder, In-N-Out’s president and CEO released a statement on the tragedy on Saturday through her social media accounts.
“My heart is broken, my chest is heavy, my eyes burn from the tears I’ve shed,” Snyder wrote. “We lost one of our beautiful Associated tonight. She was taking care of our most important asset – our Customers, and her life was taken by a disgusting human who doesn’t value the lives of others or his own.”
Snyder said In-N-Out will mourn with the families and pray for them during a “very painful season.”
The shooting at In-N-Out newest Idaho location
The Twin Falls Police Department responded near In-N-Out around 2:29 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 1, for reports of shots fired. Authorities confirmed on Sunday, that three people were killed, the suspect was dead, seven people were injured (two injured were treated and released, three injured were in stable condition and two injured were in critical condition).
On Tuesday, the Twin Falls Police Department, Twin Falls County Coroner’s Office, and Twin Falls County Prosecutor’s Office released the names of victims killed on Saturday.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the families, loved ones, friends, coworkers, and community members grieving this unimaginable loss,” police officials wrote. “Each person lost was a valued member of our community or guests of our community, and we recognize the profound pain this incident has caused across Twin Falls and beyond.”
Authorities confirmed the death of Ashley Garibay, 66-year-old Dale Schultz of Salt Lake City, Utah and 59-year-old Christopher Claunch of Hagerman, Idaho.
“Our primary concern is providing support, resources, and timely information to the 10 immediate families directly affected by this tragic incident,” Twin Falls Police Department Chief Matthew Hicks said in a news release. “These families are experiencing an unimaginable loss or injured family member, and they deserve compassion, privacy, and every available measure of assistance our department and partner agencies can provide.”
Police officials identified the suspect of the shooting on Sunday, as Chad Williams. The 24-year-old shot himself after shooting others.
“The Twin Falls Police Department continues to work closely with the Twin Falls County Prosecutor’s Office, the Twin Falls County Coroner’s Office, the FBI, and other local, state, and federal partners,” authorities said. “Additional information will be released when appropriate and when doing so will not compromise the integrity of the investigation or the privacy of those impacted.”
