San Bernardino County Regional Parks officials will host a ribbon-cutting for its new equestrian facilities at Mojave Narrows Regional Park in Victorville.
The event is scheduled at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 30, at the facility at the east end of the park located between Spring Valley Lake and Apple Valley, and east of the BNSF railroad tracks.
Free park admission will be offered for visitors from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. to join the celebration, which includes a tour of the new barn, corrals and arena area.
Light refreshments will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, county officials stated.
The equestrian project upgrades include a prefabricated barn with horse stalls and storage room for tack and feed, water and electrical conduits, corrals, spectator seating, lighting and public address system in the arena area, as well as new water troughs and hitching posts.
The restoration project
Funded by the American Rescue Plan Act, the project broke ground in January 2025, at a cost of approximately $1.6 million.
The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors in 2024 awarded a nearly $1.1 million construction contract to KNC Construction for the revitalization of the Mojave Narrows Regional Park equestrian facilities, according to the Daily Press.
The Project and Facilities Management Department is leading the project to restore and expand the park’s equestrian amenities, which have been closed due to extensive damage.
Regional Parks Director Beahta Davis said the new equestrian facility supports the department’s mission to invest in and preserve cultural and historical park resources.
“I am excited about this new amenity, and the department is looking forward to increased programs and activities for the equestrian community,” Davis said.
The revitalization of Mojave Narrows Regional Park aligns with the Countywide Vision by connecting and beautifying communities through shared open spaces, officials said.
Celeste De Blasis Memorial Garden
Visitors can also visit the recently unveiled Celeste De Blasis Memorial Garden also located at Mojave Narrows Regional Park.
Friends of Mojave Narrows Park and partner organizations gathered on April 22, Earth Day, to host the public “vine cutting” ceremony at the garden, which pays tribute to De Blasis, the late author, birder, traveler, gardener and reader, who grew up at the nearby historic Kemper Campbell Ranch.
