A 24-year-old Whitewater man has been arrested in the nearly six-year-old cold case murder of a Cathedral City man, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
On Friday, June 13, Jorge Huerta-Arias was arrested in Whitewater for what the department says is his suspected involvement in the murder of Anthony Carrillo, a 19-year-old man who deputies found with gunshot wounds just after midnight on Oct. 26, 2019. He later died of his injuries at a hospital.
Carrillo, who lived in Cathedral City, was found inside a home in the 5300 block of Avenida Madero in the Cove section of La Quinta by deputies responding there. He had been shot multiple times.
The department said Huerta-Arias was identified as a suspect after a review of the investigation was initiated and additional evidence and information were obtained. The investigation remains ongoing, but the department did not say if additional suspects are being sought in Carrillo’s killing.
Huerta-Arias is being held at a jail in Murietta on a $3 million bond. He has yet to be formally charged but is scheduled to be in court at 8 a.m. June 18.
