Making the cut as an NFL rookie is serious business, but we interrupt the evaluation of the cutthroat world of pro football for this lighter item. Makai Lemon’s jersey number at USC will now become Ja’Kobi Lane’s jersey number with the Baltimore Ravens. Here’s more from Ravens Wire:
“Among the notable assignments, Vega Ioane will wear No. 71, while second-round edge rusher Zion Young takes over No. 9. Wide receiver Elijah Sarratt will sport No. 13, and fellow receiver Ja’Kobi Lane has been issued No. 6. Ioane will wear the same number he had at Penn State, taking it over from second-year offensive tackle Carson Vinson. Young’s No. 9 was last worn by kicker Justin Tucker. Lane’s No. 6 jersey was last worn by wide receiver Anthony Miller in 2024 and linebacker Patrick Queen before him. Sarratt’s No. 13 was worn by quarterback Devin Leary last season.”
There is poetry not only in Makai Lemon and Ja’Kobi Lane sharing a number, with Lemon passing the baton to Lane in the transition from college ball to the NFL, but also in the number six itself. Receivers are paid to score six points. That’s the fast Lane to NFL success in Baltimore. Meanwhile, in Philadelphia, Lemon will try to prove to Jalen Hurts, Nick Sirianni, Howie Roseman, and all his teammates that he has the juice as a pro and a first-round draft pick.
