The San Francisco 49ers haven’t seen their injury issues expand since the first couple weeks of training camp, but there doesn’t seem to be any end in sight for their absences heading into a joint practice with the Los Angeles Chargers on Tuesday.
Sunday’s practice saw three new absences to start the session with right guard Dominick Puni, wide receiver Demarcus Robinson and defensive tackle Gracen Halton all missing. Defensive end Titus Leo and defensive tackle CJ West both exited with injuries during practice.
Five new injuries brings the 49ers group that either missed or didn’t finish Sunday’s practice to a whopping 21 players including the trio still on the PUP list.

While there’s still time for this group to get healthy for Week 1, the days leading up to their Sept. 10 opener against the Los Angeles Rams are evaporating quickly. They’re evaporating even quicker for those who are injured and still battling for a spot on the 53-man roster.
Tuesday’s joint practice with the Chargers will be a key moment for certain players fighting for roster spots and starting jobs, so getting healthy for that will be imperative. The same goes for the team’s second preseason game Thursday evening against the Chargers at SoFi Stadium.
