Lakers jersey history No. 37 — Kostas Antetokounmpo

Through the 2024-25 season, the Los Angeles Lakers have had a total of 506 players suit up for them, going back to their days in Minneapolis. Some were forgettable, some were serviceable, some were good and a select few were flat-out legendary.

During the Lakers’ 80th season of existence (they were founded back in 1946 as the Detroit Gems in the National Basketball League), LeBron Wire is taking a look at each player who has worn their jersey, whether it has been a purple and gold one or the ones they donned back in the Midwest during their early years.

Plenty of Lakers fans are hoping and dreaming that Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo will be traded to the team this summer. Many people might not remember, but Antetokounmpo’s younger brother, Kostas, already played for Los Angeles several years ago.

After he was a second-round draft pick in 2018 and spent his first NBA season with the Dallas Mavericks, he came to the Lakers prior to the 2019-20 season. He spent two years with the Lakers and averaged one point and 1.1 rebounds in 3.8 minutes a game while getting a championship ring in 2020.

The 6-foot-10 big man left the NBA in 2021 and has since played in a number of foreign leagues. Most notably, he played with Panathinaikos of the Greek Basketball League and the EuroLeague from 2023 to 2025, and he’s currently with Aris of the Greek Basketball League.
