Lakers have reportedly acquired a 2026 second-round draft pick

On Tuesday, during the first round of the 2026 NBA Draft, the Los Angeles Lakers traded the rights to their No. 25 pick, Sergio De Larrea, to the New York Knicks for the rights to guard Cameron Carr, who was taken with the No. 24 pick. But they weren’t done making deals.

On Wednesday, they sent cash to the Chicago Bulls in order to acquire a second-round draft pick. As a result, Los Angeles will have the No. 56 selection in the draft, which will give them the opportunity to add another incoming rookie to their roster.

“Sources: The Los Angeles Lakers are acquiring No. 56 from the Chicago Bulls in the second round of the NBA draft tonight at 8 pm ET on ESPN,” Shams Charania of ESPN wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “Lakers sent cash to the Bulls to get a pick tonight.”

Los Angeles has a history of trading into the second round of the NBA draft. Most notably, in 2022, it traded cash and a future second-rounder in order for the No. 35 pick that year. It then used that pick on Max Christie, who has since developed into a viable 3-and-D wing.
