The Los Angeles Lakers were a bit short-handed during their 113-110 loss to the Detroit Pistons on Monday. Veteran guard Marcus Smart was ruled out due to ankle and hip ailments, and reserve forward Rui Hachimura didn’t play either because of a calf problem.
They could’ve used some offensive production from Hachimura on Monday. LeBron James had just 12 points on 4-of-10 shooting while Luka Doncic went 11-of-29 from the field and 3-of-13 from 3-point range. In the fourth quarter, L.A. scored just 23 points on 42.9% field-goal shooting while committing eight turnovers, and while it fought back from a 16-point deficit to give itself a real shot at victory, it had trouble manufacturing points consistently when it truly needed to.
According to coach JJ Redick, Hachimura underwent an MRI on his calf, which he injured on Thursday against the Miami Heat, and the MRI came back clean. The forward is considered day-to-day.
The Lakers will wrap up their six-game road trip on Wednesday when they visit the Indiana Pacers. They will then return home and face the Brooklyn Nets on Friday before they have back-to-back games in L.A. versus the Washington Wizards and Cleveland Cavaliers to start next week.
Hachimura is averaging 11.1 points a game on 50.5% overall shooting and 43.8% from 3-point range this season.
