Three Tulare County Rite Aid locations will close
Rite Aid has declared bankruptcy a second time and as a result announced that it will be closing three of its Tulare County pharmacies.
Among the 102 Rite Aid locations set to close in California are the two in Visalia, 5212 W. Walnut Ave. and 1735 E. Walnut Ave., and the one in Exeter, 1051 W. Visalia Road. No mention was made in the announcement about its Dinuba, Farmersville, Lindsay, Porterville, Tulare, or Woodlake locations.
Tulare opens first dog park
The city of Tulare celebrated the opening of Tulare’s first dog park, the K9 Bane Dog Park, on June 9. The park is located at 407 North O St., and open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. For more information, call the Tulare Community Services Department at (559) 684-4310.
Tulare County Resource Management Agency to manage East Orosi sewer system
The Tulare County Resource Management Agency was selected to manage the East Orosi sewer system on June 11.
The State Water Resources Control Board announcement was made possible by Assembly Bill 805, which allows the board to require failing sewer systems that serve disadvantaged communities to contract with an approved administrator.
“Tulare County applauds the board’s leadership in working to cure the longstanding problems in East Orosi,” said Tulare County Supervisor Eddie Valero. “Tulare County stands ready to remedy obstacles, provide transparent management of the sewer system, and work towards a long-term solution for the community.”
Cal Fire Tulare Unit selects new fire captains
Cal Fire Tulare Unit announced on June 5 that its newest fire captains are Pedro Gutierrez and Justin Gonzales, who both graduated from Fire Control Training − Company Officer Academy on May 30.
Lefty Holman qualifies for 2025 Calgary Stampede
Lefty Holman of Visalia is among the 210 athletes qualifying for the 2025 Calgary Stampede, which bills itself as “The World’s Largest Outdoor Rodeo.” He will compete in saddle bronc riding at the event that is scheduled for July 4-13 at GMC Stadium in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Arts Consortium releases public art catalogue
The Arts Consortium has released the Tulare County Public Art Catalogue, an online catalog that provides free virtual access to public art works in Tulare County.
To be considered for the catalog, artwork must be original, permanently installed in a public setting without gate or entrance fees, and “must have a clear intent to beautify its surroundings, or express an idea about social connections.”
The project was created through a partnership with the Museum Alliance of Tulare County and the College of Sequoias.
Visalia Police Department conducts tobacco decoy operations
The Visalia Police Department is conducting a tobacco minor decoy operation to find businesses in the City of Visalia that are selling tobacco products to minors. Under the supervision of officers, underage decoys visit various businesses in the city and attempt to buy tobacco products.
Retailers found guilty of selling tobacco products to a minor can be charged for a misdemeanor and/or face a $1,000 fine. The program, which will continue through the year, is funded by a grant from the California State Department of Justice.
British Columbia launches recruitment campaign in California
Tulare County hospitals now have additional competition in attracting and retaining doctors, nurses, and other health professionals. British Columbia has launched a recruitment marketing campaign in California.
“Our message to U.S. doctors, nurses and allied health workers is strong and clear – there has never been a better time to come to British Columbia, and for Canadian health professionals currently living and working in the U.S., now is the time to come home,” said Josie Osborne, Canada’s minister of health.
First responders who helped battle Eaton and Palisades fires gifted Disneyland tickets
Tulare County emergency responders who helped fight the Eaton Fire and Palisades Fire in Southern California in January are among those eligible for 496 Disneyland Resort Park Hopper Tickets.
Disneyland Resort has donated Heroes Tickets for emergency responders (and a guest) to experience a day of fun at Disneyland. Eligible first responders should register for the offer by completing the online form by June 26.
