Friday Night Hero playoff edition, your chance to vote for the football player of the week

Playoffs? We’re talking about playoffs? Yep, that’s right. The regular season may be over but that doesn’t mean we’re done with the Friday Night Hero.

Friday Night Hero is where you get the chance to vote for the high school football player of the week, and this week those candidates will come from the first round of the playoffs.

But before we get to that fab five, let’s look back at who you chose as your Friday Night Hero last week. In a bit of a runaway, you chose Yucca Valley quarterback Aiden Shannon. He had a big night in the High Desert Bell Game against Twentynine Palms throwing for five touchdowns in a 49-0 playoff-clinching win.

This week’s winner, as always, is up to you. Simply vote for your favorite in the poll at the bottom of this article at desertsun.com and whoever has the most votes at noon on Thursday is the winner.

Here are this week’s honorees in alphabetical order:

Trey Boulton, Palm Desert

What he did: Trey Boulton caught five passes for the Aztecs for 123 yards, including a 40-yard touchdown and other receptions of 32 and 28 yards to key the Palm Desert offense.

Ivan Camargo, Coachella Valley

What he did: Camargo had three touchdowns in the Arabs’ dramatic 38-35 win over Banning. Two of his usual rushing scores and an unusual one he stole the ball from a Banning player who had intercepted it and ran in it for a score.

Anthony Garcia, Shadow Hills

What he did: A big play threat all season, Garcia had a 50-yard touchdown on one of the first plays of the second half to put a nail in the Jurupa Hills coffin in the Knights’ 37-0 win.

Aiden Pope, Yucca Valley

What he did: Despite being the focus of the Costa Mesa defense, Pope had a 14-yard TD reception, a 4-yard TD run and a 90-yard touchdown run in the Trojans’ 43-17 win.

Koa Rapolla, Palm Springs

What he did: A lot of everything for the Indians in their 33-7 win over Claremont as Rapolla, had two rushing touchdowns, forced one fumble, and returned another fumble for a touchdown.
