A wildfire fire scorched 5.5 acres of vegetation and gutted four outbuildings after igniting near the Cajon Pass on Monday, officials said.
The Cajon Fire was first reported about 10:45 a.m. along the 16200 block of Cajon Boulevard, near Keenbrook Road, just west of San Bernardino County’s Cajon Pass, according to San Bernardino County Fire Department logs.
Firefighters arrived two find roughly a quarter acre of brush burning, along with two structures, according to Cal Fire, which joined San Bernardino County firefighters in the effort to control the blaze. The flames were spreading at a “moderate” rate.
Wind gusts of up to 30 mph and heavy fuels helped the fire jump a set of train tracks and spread, reaching more than 5 acres in size in under a hour, officials reported.
Water-dropping aircraft and bulldozers were brought to bare, helping firefighters gain the upper hand.
Cal Fire declared forward spread of the Cajon Fire stopped at just before 1 p.m. There were no reports of injuries.
Information on the cause of the fire was not available.
