The Victor Valley Wastewater Reclamation Authority will host an Earth Day celebration for all ages at its main plant facility in Victorville.
The wastewater authority will partner with Athens Services, Anaergia, and Southwest Gas to host the “Earth Day Starts Now” themed party from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m on April 12, at 20111 Shay Road.
During the event, visitors will explore how agency operations promote environmental stewardship and sustainability.
Attendees will have a chance to tour the agency’s water recycling facilities while learning about the cutting-edge technology that is turning waste into energy through a partnership between the three agencies.
Guests can also visit Athens, American Organics, one of Southern California’s most advanced composting facilities, and learn how Athens Services turns organic waste into compost mulch, organizers said.
The event will include a free lunch, Kids Zone and Y-102’s Coleen Quinn broadcasting live. The first 100 attendees will receive a free Earth Day T-shirt.
“The work we do to protect public health and provide renewable resources often goes unnoticed,” General Manager Darron Poulsen said. “Earth Day marks an important opportunity for the community to see how we recycle everything from wastewater to green waste, all while having a great time with their family and friends.”
Victor Valley Wastewater Reclamation Authority has provided wastewater treatment, water recycling, renewable green energy, and nutrient-rich soil amendment services to residents and businesses for nearly 50 years.

Every year, Earth Day falls on April 22. The day has been celebrated for over 50 years but isn’t federally recognized, as previously reported by USA TODAY.
The inaugural Earth Day was held in 1970 when 20 million people went to events at schools, universities and other public areas around the U.S., according to the Library of Congress.
Senator Gaylord Nelson advocated Earth Day and called on “students to fight for environmental causes and oppose environmental degradation with the same energy that they displayed in opposing the Vietnam War,” states the library.
In July 1970, the library added the Environmental Protection Agency, which was created after public demand for cleaner water, air and land.
