A 53-year-old bicyclist was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Oxnard May 30 when he was struck by a vehicle near the intersection of Fifth Street and Harbor Boulevard.
Officers with the Oxnard Police Department and emergency personnel were called to the area shortly after 4 p.m. for the collision and found the man lying on the side of the road of eastbound Fifth Street. The man suffered major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The man’s bicycle was found nearby him with significant damage.
Police said their preliminary investigation showed the bicyclist was likely riding eastbound on Fifth Street when he was struck by a vehicle. The man was thrown from his bike to the side of the road, police said.
The driver fled the crash, police said. The investigation is ongoing.
The crash comes one day after a crash between a pedestrian and a vehicle on Harbor Boulevard and Spinnaker Drive in Ventura, about 4 miles from the Oxnard crash.
