Firefighters working a vegetation fire in Millville were able to stop it from growing past 35 acres.
The Plains Fire broke out Tuesday evening and quickly prompted crew on scene to request the California Highway Patrol to close traffic on Highway 44 while they brought the blaze under control, according to radio traffic communications.
The Plains Fire was reported at 5:49 p.m. in the area of Highway 44 and Millville Plains Road.
The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection wildfire map showed an air tanker and a small airplane over the area.
The fire was sparked as the Redding Municipal Airport, the nearest weather station to Millville, saw its highest temperature of the day. The temperature was 97 degrees and south wind was blowing to the north at 13 MPH, according to the National Weather Service.
The fire was burning just north of where the Buffalo Fire broke out earlier on Tuesday June 23. That fire was reported just before 3 p.m. in the 25100 block of Aoudad Drive and burned 9.1 acres before firefighters stopped its forward progress.
