It’s going to be a busy summer for the Golden State Warriors. Once again, the franchise is searching for ways to build a contending team around its aging duo of Stephen Curry and Draymond Green. Fortunately, the Warriors have the 11th pick in the upcoming draft to work with. They can either look to draft a high-level prospect or try to package the pick in a larger deal for a star-level talent.
According to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, Golden State may look to do the latter. One player who is potentially available is Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks. It just so happens that Milwaukee is staring at a full-scale rebuild, making an additional pick in what is a loaded draft class, very appealing.
“Still, pursuing a trade for a big-name star remains extremely relevant for owner Joe Lacob and the Warriors, and there have been no shortage of talks regarding Giannis and the Warriors among rival teams,” Siegel wrote. “Many fully expect Lacob and his front office to package this No. 11 pick with other future assets to try and convince the Bucks to trade them Antetokounmpo.”
Giannis has long been a target of Golden State. He would be an ideal co-star for Curry, with their talents projected to work in tandem. Where Curry spaces the floor, Giannis pressures the rim. Both are capable of creating for themselves and others, and both command a huge amount of attention from opposing defenses.
Nevertheless, Golden State won’t be the only team vying for Giannis’ services. Therefore, Mike Dunleavy Jr. would need to offer up a sizeable package to get a deal over the line. However, if the belief is that Giannis gets the Warriors closer to another championship, that’s a deal worth making.
