For reasons still under investigation, the man veered from the roadway of the off-ramp, went down an embankment and hit a tree, said CHP Officer Ryan Ayers.

Ventura County Fire crews arrived and extricated the man, the lone occupant, from the vehicle, Ayers said. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Ayers said he was not wearing a seatbelt.

One lane of the off-ramp was closed while officers and fire crews responded and later investigated the crash, he said.

CHP officers are trying to determine how and why the driver lost control of the vehilce, Ayers said.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash and has not yet spoken to an officer may call CHP Moorpark at 805-553-0800.
