In 2024, a longtime downtown Redding tech company, DataRay, relocated to Monterey, leaving the building at Placer and Market streets vacant.
Per the city of Redding building department, a permit was issued for demolition work inside the 1675 Market St. building in July 2025.
The demolition was prep work for Founders Bar, according to the permit and a state Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) application.
In December, a new building permit was under review by the city. The permit was for a full bar with two remodeled restrooms in the 3,280-square-foot space.
According to the ABC application, Ryan Muse and Christopher Hastings are the managing members of RS Restaurant Group LLC, doing business as Founders. Muse also owns RAW, the sushi restaurant on Hilltop Drive.
No opening date has been announced for the bar and both the December building permit and ABC application were still pending review as of Friday, April 3.
