Bruins softball pounces on Oregon State in 13-3 blowout

The UCLA softball team scored in every inning to defeat Oregon State 13-3 at the Anderson Family Field in Fullerton, Calif. on Sunday. The Bruins have scored at least 13 runs in each of their last five games and have averaged 14 runs per game in those same five contests. Their bats are absolutely scorching right now.

The Bruins ended the Judi Garman Classic winning all five of their games. The weekend ended with a spectacle of a performance that featured UCLA scoring 13 runs on three home runs and 11 hits. UCLA used two pitchers this game with senior Taylor Tinsley going 2.2 innings and allowing threehits and two runs. Sophomore Brynne Nally went 2.1 innings and allowed a hit and a run.

UCLA got on the board quickly with sophomore outfielder Rylee Slimp and senior infielder Jordan Woolery each scoring runs in the top of the first.

Slimp would score again in the top of the second off senior utility Megan Grant’s homer to center field, which put UCLA up 4-0 entering the third.

UCLA would follow with another run coming from freshman infielder Bri Alejandre. The Beavers were also able to get on the board with a run, but the Bruins stayed ahead, 5-1.

In the top of the fourth, UCLA’s batters responded in a ferocious manner with five runs to double the Bruins’ total amount of runs to 10. The Bruins would score three more runs in the top of the fifth thanks to two home runs by Grant and sophomore infielder Kaniya Bragg.

Oregon State could only get two of their runners home in the bottom of the fifth to initiate a mercy ruling, due to UCLA being up by 10 and winning 13-3.

The Bruins will take on their first Big Ten opponent on Friday with a matchup against Wisconsin at Easton Stadium in Los Angeles to start their series.
