Week 7 of college football has concluded and there were nine games that featured Big Ten conference play with multiple upset wins that changed the hierarchy at the top of the conference. The Big Ten continued to remain entertaining as teams like UCLA and Northwestern defeated projected better teams and games like Indiana against Oregon were a riveting back-and-forth affair. Here is what happened in every Big Ten game.
38-19 Washington vs Rutgers
The Huskies won the game in large part due to their sophomore quarterback Demond Williams Jr. The young signal caller completed 21-of-27 passes for 402 yards and two touchdowns, according to ESPN. Williams Jr. also had a significant impact as the leading rusher, due to carrying the rock 13 times for 136 yards and two more touchdowns.
34-16 Ohio State vs Illinois
The Buckeyes defense continued to tear their way through whatever unfortunate team they had to face that week. The Fighting Illini had three turnovers, which allowed Ohio State to control the pace of the game. Going into halftime, the score was 20-3 and they cruised to their weekly win.
30-20 Indiana vs Oregon
The Ducks fell to the Hoosiers in a closely fought matchup between Indiana’s junior signal caller Fernando Mendoza and Oregon’s sophomore quarterback Dante Moore. Great defense was played by both sides, but the Hoosiers offense was able to sustain more drives than Oregon’s. Even with Mendoza’s pick-six, the Hoosiers offense continued to move the ball and rack up the score.
31-13 USC vs Michigan
The Trojans freshman running back King Miller lead USC’s backfield with 18 carries and 158 yards for a touchdown. The Wolverines offense also struggled mightily against the Trojans defense with two interceptions being thrown by two different quarterbacks.
38-13 UCLA vs Michigan State
The Bruins have one back-to-back games and are now 2-1 in conference play. The Spartans started strong, but fizzled out, due to UCLA’s staunch defensive performance and explosive offensive attack. UCLA has begun to turn heads as the Spartans were the latest victim to the rejuvenated Bruin team.
22-21 Northwestern vs Penn State
Oh, how the mighty have fallen. The Nittany Lions have lost three consecutive games and all have them have come from conference play. Penn State struggled to get anything going on offense and the Wildcats were able to take advantage at the end of the game with a touchdown. Now Penn State’s season has seemingly came to an end with head coach James Franklin on the hot seat and senior quarterback Drew Allar out for the season.
34-31 Nebraska vs Maryland
The Cornhuskers’ sophomore quarterback Dylan Raiola did everything he could to make the game as interesting as possible. He threw three interceptions with one being a pick-six, but also threw four touchdowns. The last of which came in the final minutes of the game to secure the win.
37-0 Iowa vs Wisconsin
The Hawkeyes bullied the Badgers as they secured three turnovers throughout the game and racked up 17 points in the first quarter alone. The Badgers had only 209 yards of total offense, no points to show for it and they were at home. Badgers head coach Luke Fickell has his work cut out for him, but Wisconsin might make a coaching change sooner rather than later.
27-20 Minnesota vs Purdue
The Golden Gophers had virtually no run game, but they bested the Boilermakers because of their defense. Minnesota secured three interceptions and a fumble. They say defense wins championships and the Golden Gophers defense follows that to a T as they stack on another Big Ten win.
