Now that new bikeways along California Street in downtown Redding are complete, Shasta Living Streets wants to show them off.
Shasta Living Streets — which advocates for roadways to be used for more than cars — announced it will be hold its Big Beautiful Bikelane Blowout Bash affair on Friday, Oct. 3 starting at 5:30 p.m., said Anne Wallach Thomas, executive director of the Redding nonprofit.
People coming to the event are encouraged to ride their bikes on the new bikeway and protected bikeway loop, which is 5 miles long. Individuals can also walk along the bikeway and loop, organizers said.
The bike trails lead in to and out of downtown Redding, the nonprofit said.
“Decorate your bike. Dress for fun. Bring the joy,” says a flyer distributed about the event, designed to thank the City of Redding and the California Department of Transportation for their roles in making the bikeway happen, event organizers said.
The city of Redding and the California Department of Transportation constructed the separated two-way bikeway on Highway 273 from Yuba to Tehama streets and on California Street from Tehama to Division streets.
Pavement striping on the cycle track extends from Division Street to Eureka Way.
Work included constructing curbs, curb ramps, asphalt concrete paving, intersection signal and lighting modifications, storm drain improvements, pavement markings and sign installation, according to information from the city.
