A non-custodial mother is accused of kidnapping her 6-year-old child and leading deputies on a pursuit through Apple Valley and Hesperia before being arrested on Monday.
The incident began about 3:20 p.m. Aug. 10, when the woman took the child from the 10600 block of Manhasset Road, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department officials said.
Deputies spotted the suspect vehicle at Bear Valley Road and Fifth Avenue in Victorville and tried to pull it over, but the driver fled, according to a statement from the agency.
The pursuit continued for about 2 miles, until the fleeing car came to a stop at Bear Valley and Mariposa roads in Hesperia, officials said.
Karon Sherrie Brown, 43, of Corona was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping, child abuse with the possibility of causing great bodily injury or death, evading police and violating a custody order, county booking records show.
“The juvenile was unharmed and safely returned to their custodial parent,” the statement said.
Bail for Brown was set at $80,000 pending an initial court appearance.
