It’s still unknown if the Town of Apple Valley will purchase the vacant Bank of America building on Highway 18 in the Village.
Town Councilman Art Bishop confirmed with the Daily Press that the Town Council tabled the agenda item scheduled for last Thursday.
The 8,570-square-foot building was built in 1965 and is being listed by Cushman & Wakefield.
It’s unknown why the council would consider purchasing the old building that was last used by Bank of America on Aug. 16, 2022, the Daily Press reported.
At that time of the bank’s closure, Bank of America spokeswoman Colleen Haggerty said the Village location had been temporarily closed to consolidate resources and staff. Also at that time, customers had migrated to other High Desert Bank of America financial centers in Apple Valley, Victorville, Hesperia and Adelanto.
“The decision to close a branch is never an easy one, with the pandemic significantly accelerating banking behaviors toward self-service platforms as 90% of our clients now interact with us digitally while the other 10% is via phone and in-person,” Haggerty said.
