Today is Florida’s primary election and in Volusia and Flagler counties, there are significant leadership positions at the local government level and beyond.
On the ballots are Volusia County Council races, Daytona Beach City Commission races, gubernatorial candidates, U.S. Senate and House races, and elected offices in Ormond Beach, Flagler County, Palm Coast and more.
Here’s a look at the candidates running for the Aug. 18 primary in both counties.
Names marked with an asterisk (*) are incumbents.
U.S. Senate
Republicans: Chris Gleason, Ashley Moody*, Neelam Taneja Perry, Ernest “Ernie” Rivera. Democrats: Angie Nixon, Alex Vindman.
U.S. Representative, 6th District
Republicans: Manuel P. Asensio, Aaron Baker, Dan Bilzerian, Randy Fine*, Charles Gambaro. Democrats: Robert David Cooper II, Steve Morgan, Ronnie “Ron” Murchinson-Rivera, Eric Yonce.
U.S. Representative, 7th District

Governor
Republicans: Jay Collins, Byron Donalds, James Fishback, Jim Holcomb, Arthur Joseph McCaffrey, Daniel Nokovich, Paul Renner, Rachel Rodriguez, James W. Shaw, Caneste Succe, Bobby Williams. Democrats: Evelyn Castillo-Bach, Thomas Eloy Fernandez, Dayna Marie Foster, David Jolly, Dotie Joseph, Stephann Norman.
Chief Financial Officer
Republicans: Frank William Collige, Blaise Ingoglia*. Democrats: Earle Ford, Annette Taddeo.
Commissioner of Agriculture

Volusia County Council At Large
Volusia County will have a new at-large representative on the council, with incumbent Councilman Jake Johansson leaving as part of his bid for the Florida Senate District 8 seat. The council candidates are: Nancy Miller, Mike Poniatowski and Barry Powell.
Volusia County Council Member, District 1
The incumbent for District 1 Volusia County Council has competition. On the ballot are Wendy Anderson, Don Dempsey* and Melissa Thorne.
Volusia County Council Member, District 3
Three candidates are vying for the District 3 Volusia County Council seat: Anthony Gorham, Danny Robins* and Bryon White.
Volusia County School Board Member, District 1
Brenda Beery, Jaclyn Carrell and Jamie Michele Haynes* will face off in the District 1 Volusia County School Board race.
Volusia County School Board Member, District 3
Grace Kellermeier and Jessie Thompson* will face off for the Southeast Volusia seat.
Volusia County School Board Member, District 5
Ruben Colon* and Dean Condon will vie for the Deltona area seat.
Daytona Beach Commissioner, Zone 3
The candidates for Zone 3 in Daytona Beach are Christos Mavronas, Quanita May* and Steve Miller.
Daytona Beach Commissioner, Zone 5
The Daytona Beach Commission Zone 5 seat will have a new representative elected this year. Incumbent Commissioner Dannette Henry is not running for re-election. The candidates are John Counts, Aaron Harrison, Willie F. Williams

The Deltona mayor’s race is between Santiago Avila Jr.*, Maritza A. Vazquez and Jason Voelz
