Analyst projects Rams DT Kobie Turner could command $30M annually

The financial landscape for elite interior defensive linemen continues to shift rapidly, and Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Kobie Turner appears positioned to reap the benefits.

Bleacher Report analyst Moe Moton identified under-the-radar players primed to maximize their financial leverage ahead of the 2027 free agency cycle. Moton asserted that despite playing an integral role on a defense that now includes Myles Garrett, Turner’s consistent high-level production over the years has driven his projectable valuation into the tier of the highest-paid defenders in the league:

With Garrett’s deal on the books through 2030, Los Angeles may not be able to retain all of its budding talent on expiring contracts. Turner fits into that group, but he should be a priority along with All-Pro wideout Puka Nacua.

Nonetheless, Turner has produced enough to command north of $30 million annually, which would be a steep cost for the Rams. Even in a rotational role alongside Aaron Donald, he could solidify himself as a top 2027 free agent with another highly productive season.”

The $30 million threshold reflects a notable upward trend from earlier offseason forecasts. In February, Spotrac’s Michael Ginnitti predicted an initial valuation of $24.9 million per year for Turner, while simultaneously noting that continued cap growth and defensive standard-setting could ultimately push his earning potential up to the $30 million mark.

A price hike is even more expected after Tennessee Titans defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons recently signed a new deal with $35.3 million, establishing a new record for the position and naturally driving up the price floor for elite interior rushers like Turner.

Turner has consistently outproduced his No. 89 overall selection in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He compiled nine sacks as a rookie, followed by an eight-sack campaign in 2024 and registered seven sacks alongside nine tackles for loss over 17 starts last season.

A resolution regarding a long-term extension is unlikely to materialize in the immediate future, though. According to ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler, the Rams are not expected to advance extensions for any members of their 2023 draft class during this current cycle. This means that Turner likely won’t get a deal before the 2026 season, which gives him more time to bolster his value for the Rams or another team that could be interested in him if L.A. lets hime walk in free agency after the season.
