49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk considered 'untradable,' per report

It doesn’t sound as though the San Francisco 49ers will be moving on from receiver Brandon Aiyuk anytime soon.

According to a report from ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, some rival general managers consider Aiyuk to be “untradeable” given his knee injury from 2024 as well as his current contract. The 49ers can save around $20 million if they trade him at this point in the offseason, but Fowler isn’t convinced it’ll happen.

“Brandon Aiyuk’s future is squarely in limbo right now,” Fowler said. “I’ve talked to two rival executives who believe that he’s simply untradeable right now. That it’s just gonna be hard to move on because of the knee issue—didn’t play all last year. He’s kind of ghosted the 49ers at times; they haven’t really had a lot of communication with him. And then you got the contract.”

Aiyuk hasn’t played a snap since he tore his ACL in Week 7 of the 2024 season. That offseason before the injury, he signed a four-year, $120 million contract. However, the 49ers have since voided all the guarantees in that deal after he seemingly cut off communication with the team last year.

All indications point to the Washington Commanders as the most likely landing spot for Aiyuk (he played with quarterback Jayden Daniels in college and the front office knows Aiyuk from their time with the 49ers), but the Commanders don’t seem interested in doing a deal with the 49ers.

The “untradeable” moniker will be a tough one to shed if the 49ers want to recoup anything for their disgruntled receiver.

For now, as Fowler noted, his status is in limbo.
