The San Francisco 49ers start their 2025 campaign on the road, as they take on the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field on Sunday afternoon for a Week 1 battle.
Kyle Shanahan’s team was disappointing in 2024, going 6-11 and finishing in fourth place in the division. While they dealt with injuries to key players, they also felt a change was necessary on the coaching staff, so they brought back Robert Saleh to be their defensive coordinator, a move that should make a huge difference.

Seattle had a strong first season under head coach Mike Macdonald in 2024, finishing with a 10-7 record and in second place in the NFC West. Like San Francisco, the Seahawks opted for a change at coordinator, replacing Ryan Grubb with former 49ers passing-game coordinator Klint Kubiak.
Before these two teams meet on Sunday, let’s take a look at a few things that fans should know heading into this one.
