Late in the second quarter of their first preseason battle of the 2025 season against the Denver Broncos, the San Francisco 49ers had a 9-6 lead.
However, safety Marques Sigle appeared to suffer an injury, which caused him to go into the blue medical tent with the staff. While Sigle wasn’t in the tent long, he didn’t return to the field for the remainder of the quarter. The team eventually announced that his return in Saturday’s game is questionable.
Sigle, 23, played collegiately at North Dakota State from 2020-22 before transferring to Kansas State for two seasons. In his two seasons with the Golden Wildcats, he appeared in 25 games and recorded 123 tackles (10 for a loss), 12 passes defensed and four interceptions.
San Francisco took Sigle in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL draft. He’s expected to compete for a backup role throughout the preseason, with Jason Pinnock and Ji’Ayir Brown likely getting the starts.
Without Sigle, the 49ers will likely see more Richie Grant, Siran Neal, Jaylen Mahoney and Derrick Canteen at the position.
