The votes are in on the Record Searchlight’s readers’ poll of best Mexican restaurants.
We asked readers to choose their favorite Mexican eatery — from food trucks to family restaurants — in towns along Interstate 5 in Shasta County, from Cottonwood to Shasta Lake.
A total of 186 people had voted in the poll, open from July 16-26. Readers’ votes were spread over 17 restaurants on the poll, plus several write-ins, but two Redding restaurants and two Shasta Lake eateries got the most votes.
Here are Mexican dining spots readers said were tops.

In first place with more than 17% of reader votes — including write-ins: Taquería Los Gordos in Redding. The restaurant’s Churn Creek location is less than a quarter of a mile from I-5 where it crosses South Bonnyview Road. There’s also a downtown Pine Street location.
Other restaurants that pulled in double digit voting numbers included Joe’s Giant Orange in Shasta Lake, Mazatlan Grill and write-in favorite Casa Rios Grill in Redding.
