James Vigneau was reportedly asked to leave the home of friends Sunday after he made inappropriate comments but instead pulled out a knife and slashed it toward a man and his daughter, according to the prosecutor’s office.

When the family dog came to protect his owners and Vigneau stabbed the pet in the mouth area two times, leaving injuries, investigators said.

Vigneau was arraigned Monday in 37th District Court in Warren on four felony counts, including a second-degree charge of killing/torturing animals, two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, and being a habitual offender.

Bond was set at $60,000. Online court records Tuesday did not list an attorney for Vigneau.

“We will continue working closely with law enforcement and animal welfare authorities to pursue justice and safeguard those who cannot protect themselves,” Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido said in a statement.
