Velocity unveiled the very first restomod Ford Fox Body Mustang at the SEMA 2025 show in Las Vegas on Tuesday, Nov. 4.
A restomod refers to an old car that is restored and then modified with newer OEM or aftermarket parts. The design team at Velocity has worked on several restomod projects through the years, and this 1991 Velocity Fox Body Mustang LX is the team’s latest creation. It has been rebuilt inside and out and has received several performance upgrades.
SEMA (Specialty Equipment Association Market) is a trade show held annually in Las Vegas that focuses on modded vehicles and aftermarket parts. Thousands of vehicles, manufacturers and spectators are on hand for the event each year. There are also appearances from race car drivers, large automotive YouTubers and other popular figures in the automotive world.
What made the Fox Body special?
The Fox Body is a third-generation Mustang that was produced from 1979 to 1993. It has a totally different style compared with the American muscle car look embodied by the previous two generations. The car is very lightweight and has a spacious engine bay, which makes it very easy to add modifications and increase the power. Superchargers, turbochargers, cold air intakes, ECU tunes, you name it. You can find just about every type of aftermarket mod there is under the hood of a Fox Body.
What’s new about the car?
The car is painted in Jet Black, has a 2-inch cowl hood, 18-inch CCW SA50 three-piece billet wheels and Carter’s Customs side splitters. The interior has Recaro Expert M heated seats, an Alcantara headliner and a Sparc Industries velocity-designed steering wheel to go along with several other interior add-ons.
While the exterior is impressive, performance upgrades are what makes this classic muscle car truly stand out.
The original Fox Body had decent horsepower numbers for its time coming from its 5.0 engine, but it’s capable of much more with the proper modifications. Velocity uses a Ford Performance Gen 4x Coyote engine along with a Whipple 3.0-liter inverted supercharger to supply a total of 800 rear-wheel horsepower. There are other mods added to the vehicle such as a 10R80 10-speed automatic transmission that is used in modern Ford vehicles. It also has a carbon driveshaft, Baer six-piston four-wheel disc brakes, a Ford 9-inch rear axle to go along with other upgrades.
The CEO of Velocity, Stuart Wilson, spoke about the significance of the Fox Body Mustang to automotive history in a news release.
“The Fox Body holds a special place in automotive culture,” Wilson said. “We set out to reimagine it with the same spirit that made it iconic, while infusing the craftsmanship, comfort and capability that define Velocity. We’re constantly looking for the next evolution of reengineered classics, and this Fox Body embodies that.”
