Michigan State football suffered their first loss of the 2025 season at the hands of USC on Saturday night. A late night affair, it was a struggle for Michigan State at times, but also went positive for MSU at times.
Ultimately, it was a 45-31 loss for the Spartans, and the team will now get a bye week to prepare for a bounce back spot against Nebraska on Oct. 4.
Reflecting on the game in Los Angeles, offensively, it was not perfect for the Spartans, but the unit did a ton of good things to build upon. 31 points and 337 yards against a good Trojans defense is nothing to scoff over, and will give the unit a ton of things to build on going forward.
After looking at the film, and evaluating the game, Pro Football Focus (Subscription Required) gave out their grades for the Spartans in the game.

WR Omari Kelly – 77.4
Kelly led the receiver room on Saturday, and made his impact felt both in run blocking and catching the football. He finished with 6 catches for 133 yards and a touchdown.
RB Makhi Frazier – 75.5
Not playing at 100%, Frazier still made his impact felt in the game as the Spartans leading rusher with 61 yards and 14 attempts.
G Gavin Broscious – 71.3
Getting more than 30 spots at the guard spot, Broscious was very effective in both run and pass blocking.
TE Michael Masunas – 69.6
Once again, we find Michael Masunas on this list, and he continues to show week after week how much of an asset he is for this Michigan State offense.
C Matt Gulbin – 68.7
The leader of the offensive line shows his face with another outstanding game in the middle, securing good grades in all facets of blocking.
