A beloved (and wonderfully smelling) downtown business is under new ownership in Holland, but customers needn’t worry — the plan is to stay the course and make tasteful additions along the way.
The Seasoned Home launched two decades ago under the ownership of Jody LaCombe and Christina Bensinger. The business at 43 E. Eighth St. carries spices, tea, gourmet food options and more.
The duo recently retired, and Jessica and Travis Lang purchased the business just before the holiday season. The official announcement came in January, after the couple had time to get their feet wet and meet customers.
“Priority one was getting our hands and heads wrapped around the business and, once things settled down post-holiday, we had time to make the announcement to the world,” Travis said.
The couple, along with their children Brecken and Britta, currently reside in St. Joseph. They’re no strangers to business ownership.
“We’re not going to subtract anything,” Travis said. “Everything customers have been able to rely on, they’re still going to be there. We really want to enhance the already awesome offerings of the store.”
That includes big plans heading into Tulip Time, with details to come.
“We’ve had an overwhelmingly warm welcome,” Jessica said.
LaCombe and Bensinger might have retired, but return customers will notice a familiar face. Bensinger’s daughter, Ashley Pestka, will remain with the store in a managerial position.
The Seasoned Home is open 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Mondays-Saturdays. For more information, visit theseasonedhome.com.
