A 16-year-old driver died Friday evening after he lost control while driving in a field in the area of Taft Road in Summerfield Township.
He was driving a Polaris Ranger in a private field south of Taft when he lost control on a curve, according to a news release from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. The car rolled over when he tried to correct course. The driver and two passengers, who were also underage, were all thrown from the car. None of them wore seatbelts, the sheriff’s office said.
The driver died at the scene, and the two passengers survived. Alcohol was not involved in the crash, according to the sheriff’s office. The driver was from Petersburg.
The two passengers were treated at the scene and released, but their parents took them to a local hospital as a precaution.
