Resthaven planning additional expansion efforts. Here's where

Resthaven plans to replace City Hill Church with a 60-unit assisted living facility and add up to 28 cottage units near its Farmstead campus as part of its next expansion efforts in Holland.

Representatives for Resthaven outlined the projects during the Holland Planning Commission’s July 14 study session.

The faith-based, nonprofit senior living provider was founded in 1945 and operates several Holland facilities, including The River Place on River Avenue and The Warm Friend on Eighth Street.

One proposal affects property at 49 E. 32nd St. and 740 College Ave. The first phase would remove City Hill Church and construct a 54,060-square-foot, one-story building with 60 assisted living units.

Plans call for a courtyard, strolling garden, outdoor activity areas and a community garden. A later phase would demolish the existing 90-unit building at 49 E. 32nd St. and replace it with an independent living facility.

Representatives said they expect to begin the church decommissioning process at the start of 2027, with construction beginning in April. The project is expected to take about 20 months to complete.

A second project at 875 E. 24th St. would expand Resthaven Farmstead with up to 28 cottage units, including 11 duplex units and six single-family homes, each with a two-stall garage.

Representatives said more than 20 people have already expressed interest in the units. The project is ready to move forward and is awaiting EGLE approvals. Construction could begin in April 2027.

Resthaven must return to the planning commission for required approvals on both proposals. Those requests are expected in the coming months.

The projects follow another recent Resthaven expansion. In April 2026, the organization broke ground on Maple Woods Cottage, which is expected to be completed in early 2027. That project will add 24 resident units across 17,100 square feet to the Maple Woods assisted living campus.
