The race to replace departing U.S. Rep. John James has attracted a robust field of Republican candidates eager to represent one of the nation’s most competitive congressional districts. Michigan’s 10th Congressional District, spanning much of Macomb County and portions of Oakland County, will play an important role in determining the balance of power in Washington.
Two of the district’s most important economic sectors are defense and manufacturing, both of which are being affected by evolving trade and tariff policies that have significant implications for the Detroit area’s automotive supplier industry.
Four Republicans are hoping to fill the open seat: Michael Bouchard, Steffan Demetropoulos, Justin Kirk and Robert Lulgjuraj.
Michael Bouchard, a captain in the Michigan Army National Guard, brings a compelling blend of military service, leadership experience and a practical understanding of the communities that make up the district. He is a U.S. Army veteran who served in Iraq and in intelligence. He has built his candidacy around service, national security and economic growth, with a focus on encouraging skilled trades and small-business development.
Bouchard wants to rein in spending and get rid of the regulations that strangle small-business growth. On education, he supports the Parents’ Bill of Rights currently sitting before the U.S. House of Representatives and other education reform efforts.
Steffan Demetropoulos is a young conservative with military experience, community ties and passion to help form a new generation of leadership. Justin Kirk is new to the political scene with solid conservative ideas and principles. But neither is likely to succeed in the primary just based on numbers.
Robert Lulgjuraj is a strong contender. Lulgjuraj is a champion of small business with an America First agenda and deep ties to communities within the district. A Macomb County Prosecutor who has been endorsed by Autoworkers for Trump and other local groups, Lulguraj, is prioritizing safety and security and would also prioritize fraud and waste in government.
This district has been in Republican hands since it was redrawn in 2022. It is Republicans’ to lose, and should they prevail, it will be a key seat in the makeup of the U.S. House of Representatives and critical to Michigan’s future.
Bouchard brings a pragmatic approach to a big role, and his previous leadership experience recommends him highly for the job. His combination of service, leadership and electability makes him the strongest Republican choice. Of an impressive field of GOP candidates, our endorsement goes to Michael Bouchard for Michigan’s 10th Congressional District.
