A 2-year-old girl remained hospitalized Monday after police said father deserted her at the scene where he crashed a motorcycle on Sunday in Detroit.
Investigators believe the toddler was riding on a motorcycle with her father in the 12800 block of Braile Street, just south of Interstate 96 on the city’s west side, around 8 p.m. Sunday. The man apparently lost control of the vehicle and crashed, police said.
The father allegedly fled the scene before police arrived, leaving his child behind, police said. Officers found the 2-year-old at the scene. She was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. She was in stable condition on Monday, authorities said.
The incident is under investigation by the Detroit Police Department’s Child Abuse Unit. Police have not publicly identified the father by name and are asking him to turn himself in for questioning.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Detroit Police Department’s tip line at (313) 267-4600 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP. Tips also may be submitted via Detroit Rewards TV.
