A child’s body was recovered from the water at Trestle Park in Heath Township near Hamilton in West Michigan on June 20.
Deputies responded to a call about two juvenile males in the water after a bystander heard them struggling to stay afloat around 6:30 p.m., according to a release from the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office.
The man reportedly jumped into the water and was able to pull one of the children to shore, but the second never resurfaced. After an extensive search by numerous departments and agencies, the child’s body was recovered shortly after 10 p.m.
Hamilton is located about 12 miles east of Saugatuck.
According to reporting from WZZM, police confirmed the boys were brothers visiting the area with family, though their parents weren’t on-site.
Their ages and names weren’t immediately released by police.
