Okemos duo headlines Greater Lansing's all-state tennis selections

Isabella Portnoy and Isabelle Hult each made deep runs at their singles flights at the Division 1 state tournament for the Okemos tennis team.

And the duo leads the players from Greater Lansing named to the Michigan High School Tennis Coaches Association all-state team.

Portnoy and Hult were each selected first team all-state in Division 1. Portnoy, a Michigan State commit, was seeded fourth at the state finals and reached the state semifinals at No. 1 singles before falling.

Hult was the No. 2 seed at No. 2 singles and finished her high school career as the state runner-up.

Portnoy and Hult were among three first team all-state flights from Greater Lansing.

East Lansing’s No. 1 doubles team of sophomore Ani Meghea and junior Evie Laxton were first team all-state in Division 2. Meghea and Laxton were seeded No. 2 at the state finals and reached the state semifinals.

East Lansing also had senior Maia Meghea named honorable mention all-state.

Mason, Haslett and Lansing Catholic also had players receive all-state recognition.

Mason had its No. 1 doubles tandem of junior Juliette Smoker and freshman Delaney Hamers earn honorable mention in Division 2. Haslett had a pair of honorable mention flights in Division 3 in junior No. 1 singles player Gabrielle Asher and the No. 1 doubles tandem of sophomore Allison Krueger and junior Adele Leister.

Lansing Catholic had its No. 1 doubles team of junior Haven Topham and senior Lily Rule earn honorable mention accolades.
