No Kings protests in Michigan target Donald Trump policies. Where rallies are taking place

A second round of No Kings protests is scheduled across the United States, including nearly 100 across Michigan this weekend.

On Saturday, Oct. 18, No Kings demonstrations will take place nationwide and in Mexico, Panama, Puerto Rico and Canada to protest the Trump administration’s policies, according to the official No Kings website.

“Our peaceful movement is only getting bigger and bigger. “NO KINGS” is more than just a slogan; it is the foundation our nation was built upon,” the organization said online. “Born in the streets, shouted by millions, carried on posters and chants, it echoes from city blocks to rural town squares, uniting people across this country to fight dictatorship together.”

Groups will host protests in cities across Michigan’s Upper and Lower Peninsula at landmarks and in open spaces where people may easily gather, such as the Michigan State Capitol. As of Oct. 14, there were about 90 protests set in Michigan.

A previous wave of No Kings protests on June 14 amassed millions of participants across the nation.

Participants are encouraged to bring signs, take videos on their smartphones and to avoid or diffuse confrontation at the events.

“A core principle behind all No Kings events is a commitment to nonviolent action,” the organization said.

Here’s where No Kings protests are scheduled in Michigan:

What is No Kings protesting?

According to the No Kings website, participants will be protesting the federal funding cuts and deportation policies set by President Donald Trump’s administration.

“The president is pouring public money into his authoritarian takeovers of cities — deploying federal forces, seizing local police departments, and funding mass detention and deportation operations — while cutting services that working families rely on every single day,” the organization said.
