NFL agents: Lions among league's most stable and best-run franchises

The Detroit Lions are among the most stable franchises in the NFL, according to a recently published survey of 24 NFL agents.

Ben Standig’s blog “Last Man Standig” published the results of the survey Thursday. Standig sent questions to agents to get a feel for what people think about various teams, people, and storylines around the league heading into the 2025 season, giving the agents anonymity in the survey in an effort to keep the answers as candid as possible.

The survey covered topics including the best and worst-run organizations in the sport, front offices, player contracts and trades, and overall power among the league’s leadership. The Lions came up a couple of times early — in a good way.

In response to the question, “Which franchise has its act together?” The Lions tied for the fourth-most first-place votes with the Bills, Chiefs, and Commanders. The top team franchise was the Philadelphia Eagles with seven votes, followed by the Ravens and Vikings.

“Lions. The GM and head coach are on the same page; they spend money and it’s a great atmosphere,” one agent said.

Another note for Lions fans would be the opposite end of that spectrum. In response to “Which is the most unstable franchise?”, two agents were down on the Chicago Bears, with at least one response feeling especially damning.

“The Bears are a ticking time bomb,” one agent said. “The coaching hire was a home run, but perhaps that masks flaws. But there is an ego trip in the building and not everyone in the front office is on the same page.”

Lions head coach Dan Campbell, however, is continuing to impress both on and off the field, according to the survey. Campbell had the second-most votes, one short of Steelers coach Mike Tomlin, in response to the question, “Which head coach gets the most out of their players on and off the field?”

“Dan Campbell and it’s not even close,” one agent said. “The Lions lost so many players to injury last season and they kept going.”

“I was skeptical of Campbell after those early sound bites. Seemed way too high school. However, one of my players on the team noted that the players bought in quickly. He wears his emotions on his sleeve, but he’s authentic, transparent and endearing.”
