Freezing rain in the forecast

In metro Detroit, freezing rain is expected and total ice accumulations will range between one-tenth of an inch to just below a quarter-inch.

The peak period of freezing rain in the region is expected between 8 a.m. and noon.

The metro Detroit region and Ohio border have the best chance of temperatures rising above freezing by the afternoon.

Higher end ice accumulation to above two-tenths of an inch is possible around the M-59 corridor through the Interstate 69 corridor and also north through Saginaw, Tuscola and Sanilac counties.

Freezing rain could mix with sleet across the northern Tri-Cities and northern Thumb with sleet accumulation potential to a half-inch or less.

Hazardous roads, icy surfaces, power outages possible

Drivers should plan on icy roads and surfaces. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute and holiday travel.

The NWS recommends drivers slow down and use caution.

Anyone going outside should beware of possible icy, slippery surfaces increasing the risk of a fall or injury.

Isolated to scattered power outages are also possible.
