If approved by the board, Michigan State University’s president could see his salary double.
A board resolution posted to the board’s website minutes before a special 8 p.m. meeting Sunday was scheduled to begin shows that the trustees will vote to approve a substantial salary increase for President Kevin Guskiewicz.
His base salary could nearly double, from $1,029,210 to $2 million, and his unvested employer award would increase from $500,000, from $200,000 to $250,000 per year.
Guskiewicz has served as the university’s president for more than two years and has received salary increases throughout his tenure. This new salary, if approved, would put him on par with the salaries of presidents of other large research universities.
Before he stepped down after a brain cancer diagnosis, incoming UM President Kent Syverud was expected to receive a base salary of $2 million.
