Houston ― The New York Mets on Monday claimed infielder Zack Short off waivers.
The Tigers had designated him for assignment on Friday after they claimed outfielder James Outman.
Short, purchased from the Nationals on May 1, helped the Tigers fill the void created by injuries to Javier Báez and Gleyber Torres. He was a plus-1 in defensive runs saved at shortstop and, despite a .167 batting average, posted one of the highest on-base percentages by a Tiger in May (.304).
He previously played for the Mets, one of the five big-league teams he’s played for, in 2024.
