Man facing charges of domestic assault, unlawful imprisonment after Monday incident

A man was arrested Monday evening, Sept. 22, after he allegedly assaulted his fiancé’s 11-year-old daughter.

At 7:57 p.m., Monroe County Sheriff deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 1800 block of Aspen Street after the woman called 911 and said her fiancé, a 35-year-old man, assaulted her daughter. The man then dragged her from the residence and was walking down the street, refusing to let her go, according to a release from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputy Brent Thomas arrived in the area and located the man with the girl. Detective Sgt. Jeffrey Hooper arrived to assist, but the man refused to release the girl, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies deployed tasers and the suspect fell to the ground, freeing the girl. He was taken into custody following a brief struggle.

The girl sustained minor injuries that were treated at the scene of Monroe Community Ambulance and returned to her mother.

The suspect was treated at a hospital before being taken to the county jail on charges of domestic assault, unlawful imprisonment, and resisting and obstructing police.

The case is still under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact 734-240-7511.
