First impressions are great, but nothing beats getting to know a person, place or vehicle. That’s why I share my experience with vehicles after driving them for a week or so as a make or model evolves.
This week, I am looking again at the Ford Mustang Mach-E electric SUV. I last wrote about the Mach-E when it went on sale in December 2020.
Car of the week: 2026 Mustang Mach-E GT AWD California
What is it? Five-passenger sporty electric all-wheel drive SUV
How much? 2026 Ford Mustang Mach-E prices start at $37,795. All prices exclude $2,045 destination charge.
I drove a Mach-E GT AWD, base price $53,395. My well-equipped test vehicle with the $2,495 California appearance package and other options stickered at $62,145.
How’s it selling? Ford sold 51,620 Mach-Es in 2025, down 2.5% from 2024. Following the end of federal EV tax incentives, Ford has sold 9,917 Mach-Es so far this year, down about 48%.
Why do I want it?
What I thought the first time I drove one:
What I think now: The Mustang Mach-E is an attractive and enjoyable EV, but newer competitors like the Chevy Blazer SS, Hyundai Ioniq 5N and Kia EV6 GT overshadow it in key areas, including charging, power and sportiness.
Ford’s frustrating habit of introducing an outstanding vehicle and standing by as competitors catch up and surpass it has struck again.
What does it compete with? Chevrolet and Blazer EV SS, Hyundai Ioniq 5N, Kia EV6 GT
