Lions bring linebacker Ty Summers back to practice squad

The Detroit Lions are bringing back linebacker Ty Summers after releasing him about a day earlier, the team announced Wednesday.

Summers was cut from the roster on Monday and announced to be back in the building on Tuesday. He’s been up and down after getting cut by the New York Giants in the offseason and then signed for the first time to the Lions practice squad and then active roster on Oct. 1.

The Lions brought Summers in primarily to play on special teams where he saw a handful of snaps, but ultimately was moved as the team has been shifting defenders around to replace injured corners and safeties over the last couple of weeks. He is the only practice squad linebacker as of Wednesday morning.

The Green Bay Packers originally drafted Summers in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He’s had stints with multiple teams since then, including a short time in Lions training camp in 2024.
