For the first time in more than four decades, the Tigers will be represented by four homegrown players in the All-Star Game when the American League plays the National League on Tuesday night at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.
The Tigers’ All-Stars in 2026 are rookie shortstop Kevin McGonigle (first round, 2023), catcher Dillon Dingler (second round, 2020), outfielder Riley Greene (first round, 2019) and pitcher Justin Verlander (first round, 2004).
All four players were drafted by the Tigers.
The last time the Tigers had at least homegrown All-Stars was in 1985, when they had five: pitchers Jack Morris and Dan Petry, shortstop Alan Trammell, second baseman Lou Whitaker and catcher Lance Parrish.
How do I watch the Tigers in the 2026 MLB All-Star Game?
The All-Star Game will be played Tuesday night at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. First pitch is scheduled to start around 8 p.m., though pregame introductions and hoopla usually delay that time.
The game will be broadcast on Fox.
The lead play-by-play broadcaster will be the Los Angeles Dodgers’ Joe Davis, a Michigan native, and the lead analyst will be Hall-of-Fame pitcher John Smoltz, a Lansing native. Derek Jeter, David Ortiz and Alex Rodriguez will do the pregame show, along with Kevin Burkhardt. Ken Rosenthal and Tom Verducci will provide in-game reports.
Will the Tigers play in the 2026 MLB All-Star Game?
One of them will, for sure.
Greene is starting in left field and batting eighth for the AL, as an injury replacement. McGonigle and Dingler both were selected as All-Star reserves and are expected to play, perhaps first off the bench at their respective positions, behind shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. of the Kansas City Royals and catcher Shea Langeliers of the Athletics.
Verlander will not pitch in the game. He was a special legend’s selection by commissioner Rob Manfred, the 10th and final selection of his career. Verlander, on the injured list most of the year, is retiring at the end of the 2026 season.
