A local man accused of robbing the West Olive One-Stop in October 2025 recently pled no contest in Ottawa County’s 20th Circuit Court.
Jose Rosales-Torres, 21, of Holland, was initially charged with armed robbery and fourth-degree fleeing and eluding police. In exchange for pleading no contest to the former charge, the latter was dropped. A no contest plea is not an admission of guilt, but is treated similarly for sentencing.
According to a plea deal, Rosales-Torres will be sentenced to a minimum of 81 months in the Michigan Department of Corrections. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for June 15 before Judge Jon Hulsing.
Deputies responded to reports of an armed robbery on West Olive Road in Port Sheldon Township around 11 a.m. Oct. 29, 2025. According to police, two suspects reportedly threatened the store’s clerk with a handgun before stealing merchandise and fleeing prior to police arrival.
Later, a deputy spotted the suspect vehicle while on patrol in Allendale Township. Police attempted a “high-risk traffic stop,” but the driver fled at high speeds. The pursuit led into Kent County, where the suspects were eventually lost and the pursuit was terminated.
Soon after, members of the Kent County Sheriff’s Office located the vehicle abandoned and found three individuals fleeing on foot. All three were taken into custody and turned over to OCSO. In addition to Rosales-Torres, a juvenile suspect was charged with armed robbery, felonious assault and felony firearms.
According to OCSO, the teen is being charged as an adult — but his name will not be released. The third suspect, a 17-year old, was released to his guardians.
