From classic cars to clay shooting: 5 fun things to do this weekend in Northern Michigan

See Corvettes on parade 

The 36th annual Corvette Crossroads Auto Show and Mackinac Bridge Parade is back.  

Beginning on Friday, Aug. 22, Corvettes of various vintages will begin arriving in Mackinaw City. Then on Saturday, hundreds of the American automotive classic will be on display from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Straits State Harbor and in the parking lot of Arnold Transit Company. There will be multiple awards in several categories presented at 3 p.m., including People’s Choice. 

The event ends with a parade of Corvettes across the Mackinac Bridge at 7 p.m.

Experience a Ghostly Great Lakes Weekend 

MIParaCon is presenting a new paranormal experience this weekend in Sault Ste. Marie — Ghostly Great Lakes Weekend. 

Taking place on Friday and Saturday, activities include a celebrity investigation of the haunted Museum Ship Valley Camp, a Haunted History River Cruise on the St. Marys River, presentations, a night of haunted tales at Austin’s Cigar Lounge, and meet-and-greets with the event hosts.

Support food pantries for students 

Emmet Clay Sports will host their second annual Blast Hunger fundraiser for Northmen Den Youth Services on Saturday, Aug. 23. 

The event, taking place from 9 a.m. to noon, is open to the public. For a donation of $100 per participant, people will get unlimited targets at all of the venues at Emmet Clay Sports, 6835 Robinson Road in Harbor Springs, and lunch will be provided. 

Northmen Den Youth Services manages 13 school-based pantries in Emmet and Charlevoix counties.

Help protect loons at 6K

The Charlevoix Running Company and Altra are partnering to raise funds to help protect the local loon population on Saturday, Aug. 23. 

The two will host the Lope for Loons 6K trail run from 9 a.m. to noon at the Mt. McSauba Recreation Area in Charlevoix. Proceeds from the event will go to the Little Traverse Conservancy for updated signage to protect loons at boat launches, and money will also support Mt. McSauba’s outdoor education infrastructure.

Enjoy jazz in Cheboygan 

The Four Freshmen will perform at the Cheboygan Opera House at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23. 

According to the Opera House, “the legacy of their harmony-driven jazz-pop style continues to resonate with audiences, as the group continues to tour worldwide today.”

Tickets for adults are $25–40, and veterans receive a $5 discount. Tickets for students are $10.
